Tim Jackson was a dedicated husband and father who was also active in the community as a Scout Leader and gave countless hours as a Volunteer Firefighter supporting the safety and wellbeing of our community.
The 2016 Great Train Race was a huge success, with over 880 tickets sold, and Airdrie Professional Firefighters coming out on top this year raising $1083 for the Tim Jackson Scholarship Fund, and with their second place winnings Airdrie EMS will be making a donation to Victim Services.
Thank you to MLA Angela Pitt and Mayor Peter Brown for their support in coming out this year, along with all the families that joined us for some fun driving trains through the lights!
He died as a result of injuries he sustained in a trench collapse in 1997 at age 42. He was very well respected throughout the Airdrie Fire Department and we endeavor to keep his memory alive through this memorial fund.
In 2012, the Tim Jackson memorial Fund provided four (4) $250 awards to local Airdrie students who demonstrated Citizenship qualities throughout their High School education. The distribution of funds is in the fall at the school's annual awards night.
Funds are raised from the sale of pop in AirdrieFire Halls and from bottle returns collected over the year. The Annual Great Train Race during the Airdrie Festival of Lights and the Airdrie Professional Firefighters Charity provide the balance of the funding. Firefighter Association members volunteer their time to support the scholarship and present the awards annually at each high school.
